The New York Mets lost in extra innings to the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City won 4-3 on a homerun in the 12th inning. New York defeated Kansas City on Friday night and the two teams face each other again on Sunday afternoon. The Mets will have Zack Wheeler on the mound for the final game of the series. Wheeler is 4-1 on the year with 36 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. Zack wheeler is one of the top pitching prospects in the Major Leagues.
The Mets placed David Wright on the 15 day disabled list for a hamstring injury. Mets manager Terry Collins indicated that Wright could miss 3 to 5 weeks. New York is 10 games behind Cincinnati in the race for the wild card.
