Jim Thome Traded To Orioles –

Jim Thome was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for two minor league players.  The future Hall of Famer has had limited playing time this season after hurting his lower back.  Thome will be the DH and could provide much needed offense for the Orioles.  Jim Thome has hit 609 home runs and 1,689 RBIs in his career.  Currently, the Baltimore Orioles are 42-35 and in second place in the American League East behind the New York Yankees.

Nadal Loses At Wimbledon –

Rafael Nadal lost in the second round at Wimbledon to Rosol.  Rosol won the five set match after dropping the first set to Nadal.  Rosol played well at the net and had a strong serve.  Maria Sharpova and Andy Roddick also advanced at Wimbledon.

Angels Hit Four Home Runs –

The Los Angeles Angels hit four home runs against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The Angels also had 17 hits in the 7-3 victory.  Wilson pitched seven innings and gave up only one run on six hits.  Los Angeles is in second place behind the Texas Rangers and are 41-33 on the season.  The Orioles are 41-32 and in second place in the American League East behind the New York Yankees.

Heat Win NBA Finals –

The Miami Heat won the NBA Finals in five games over the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Miami clinched the title with a 121-106 victory in Miami on Thursday night.  The Heat had a slight edge in rebounding over the Thunder 41-38.  Lebron James was the NBA Finals MVP and scored 26 points sin game five.   Kevin Durant led all scorers with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

Wimbledon 2012 –

Djokovic won his first match at Wimbledon 2012 with a straight set win.  Djokovic is attempting to defend his Wimbledon title.  Federer and Clijsters also won their matches at Wimbledon in straight sets.  Sharapova advanced with a stright set victory over Rodionova and is seeking her second Wimbledon title.

Heat Take Game Four –

The Miami Heat won game four of the NBA Finals and have a 3-1 lead in the series.  The Oklahoma City Thunder took an early 17 point lead but the Miami Heat came back to win 104-98.  Westbrook scored 43 points for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Lebron James had 26 points for the Miami Heat.

Simpson Wins US Open –

James Webb Simpson won the 112th US Open by one shot on Sunday.  Simpson finished 2 under par 68 on the day.  Michael Thompson and Graeme McDowell were tied for second place.  Tiger Woods finished tied for 21st and was 7 over par.  Simpson won $1.44 million with his victory at the US Open.

Miami Heat Win Game Two –

The Miami Heat had a 12 point lead at halftime and held on to win game two of the NBA Finals over the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Miami led by as many as 17 points and managed to escape a late rally by the Thunder to win 100-96.  Miami led in game 1 of the NBA Finals but Oklahoma City came from behind to win.  Lebron James and Kevin Durant each had 32 points on the game.

Kings Win Stanley Cup –

The Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 45 years history.  Jeff Carter had two goals and led the Kings to a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils in game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.  The New Jersey Devils came back after losing the first three games of the Stanley Cup finals to force a game six.  The Los Angeles Kings were only the second number eight seed to play in the Stanley cup finals.

Union Rags Wins Belmont Stakes –

The 144th running of the Belmont Stakes in New York came down to a photo finish.  Union Rags came from behind to win the last leg of the Triple Crown.  I’ll Have Another won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness but could not run the Belmont Stakes due to an injury.  Union Rags finished 7th in the Kentucky Derby.  There were over 85,000 in attendence at the Belmont Stakes.

Los Angeles Kings Defeat New Jersey Devils –

The Los Angeles Kings are only one win away from the Stanley Cup.  The Kings defeated the New Jersey devils 4-0 and have a three game lead in the Stanley Cup finals.  Since the Stanley Cup finals went to a seven game format in 1939 only the 1942 Maple Leafs came back after losing the first three games.  Jonathan Quick had 22 saves for the Los Angeles Kings and had his third shutout in the playoffs.

New York Mets First No-Hitter –

New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in the history of the franchise.  It took slightly more than 8,000 games for a Mets pitcher to throw a no-hitter but the drought ended last night.  The 8-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals was the third win of the season for Santana.  Santana threw 134 pitches in the game which marked a career high.  Santana had 8 strikeouts on the game and allowed five walks.  There were only 3 ground ball outs all game with 16 fly outs.  The New York Mets only had a two run lead until they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and another three runs in the seventh.  The Mets are now 29-23 on the season.

Franchitti Wins Indy 500 –

Dario Franchetti won the 96th Indianapolis 500 and the third of his career.  Franchetti won the Indy 500 in 91 degree heat with his wife Ashley Judd in attendance.  Scott Dixon finished in second place and Tony Kanaan came in third.  Franchetti has won two of the last three Indy 500’s.

I’ll Have Another Wins Another –

I’ll Have Another won the Preakness by a neck in 1:55 4/5.    I’ll Have Another came from behind and passed Bodemeister down the stretch.  Bodemeister finished second and Creative Cause was third.  There were 121,309 in attendence at Pimlico.  I’ll Have Another only needs to win Belmont for the Triple Crown.  The last time a horse won the Triple Crown was in 1978.

New York Mets Hosting 2013 All-Star Game –

The New York Mets will host the 2013 All-Star game.  On Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced that the Mets will host the All-Star game on July 16th.  The only other time that the New York Mets hosted the All-Star game was in 1964.  Minnesota is expected to host the 2014 game and the 2015 game may be played at Miami or Washington DC.  The league that wins the All-Star game has home-field advantage in the World Series.
