Strasburg Strikes –

Strasburg picks up his second win in as many starts.  The Nationals won 9-4 over Cleveland and Strasburg had eight strikeouts in five and one-third innings.  A Strasburg start is helping to sell tickets even when he makes appearances on the road.

Strasburg –

Stephen Strasburg made his major league debut with the Nationals and lived up to expectations.  Strasburg pitched seven innings and allowed only two runs in a 5-2 victory.  Strasburg rang up 14 strikeouts and set the Nationals team record for strikeouts in a game.  That total also placed him third all-time for strikeouts in a major league debut.  At 21, Strasburg can be the franchise building player that the Nationals so desperately need these days.

Bryce Harper –

The Washington Nationals landed Bryce Harper with the first pick of the draft.  Bryce Harper will be playing the outfield for the Nationals and that should help his numbers.  According to a Yahoo! Sports article, a key part of the negotiations with the Nationals was that Bryce would play the outfield and not catcher.  If Bryce was to play catcher it would slow his development and delay his entry into the big leagues.  Bryce Harper is another first round selection that is highly touted along with Strasburg who is about to have his major league debut.

Lakers And Celtics –

The Lakers and Celtics are set for another NBA Finals series and it couldn’t be better for television ratings.  A Lakers-Celtics match-up will be a ratings hit and the longer the series lasts the better of TV and the NBA.  The days of Bird and Magic may be over but the fans are still in the Beat LA mindset.

Halladay Perfect –

Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game in a 1-0 victory against the Florida Marlins tonight.  This is only the second perfect game in Philadelphia Phillies history.  The first was thrown by Republican Senator Jim Bunning in 1964.  Halladay has won the AL Cy Young award and almost threw a no-hitter in his second major league start back in 1998.

Mets Sweep Phillies –

The Mets swept the Phillies and moved into third place.  Three straight games of shutout ball were thrown by a Mets staff that is looking to be one of the best in the major leagues.  Even with starters like Maine on the DL it didn’t stop them from handing the Phillies shutout after shutout after shutout.  This marked the first time since 1983 that the Phillies were blanked for three straight games.
