New York Giants Defeat Atlanta Falcons –

The New York Giants defeated the Atlanta Falcons 24-2 and will face the Green Bay Packers next week.  Eli Manning was 23 for 32 passing and threw for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Green Bay was 15-1 on the season and are coming off of a bye week.  In the last meeting, the Packers escaped with a 38-35 win against the New York Giants.

Michigan Wins Sugar Bowl –

The Michigan Wolverines won the Sugar Bowl over Virginia Tech by a score of 23-20.  Michigan had fewer than 200 total yards  and only 12 first downs on the day.  The overtime victory gave the 13th ranked Wolverines their 11th win on the year.

Joe Torre Group Looks To Buy Dodgers –

Joe Torre has left his position with Major League Baseball to join a group attempting to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Torre was the Executive Vice President of Major League Baseball Operations.  Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Torre was the manager for the New York Yankees from 1996 to 2007 and the Dodgers manager from 2008 to 2010.  Torre joins a group led by real estate developer Rick Caruso.

Stanford Loses Fiesta –

Stanford suffered an overtime loss to Oklahoma State at the Fiesta Bowl.  The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated Stanford by a score of 41-38.  Brandon Weeden completed 29 of 42 passes and threw for 399 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Andrew Luck turned in another top performance in his last game for the Stanford Cardinals.  Luck was 27 for 31 passing and he threw for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Oklahoma State and Stanford entered the game ranked third and fourth.  Oklahoma State and Stanford finish the season 12-1 and 11-2.

Oregon Wins Rose Bowl –

The Oregon Ducks won the Rose Bowl for the first time in 95 years.  Oregon came from behind and scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to win 45-38.  This was also the highest scoring Rose Bowl in history.  The Oregon Ducks are 12-2 on the year and the Wisconsin Badgers finished 11-3.

The NBA season has started and Fox Sports has compiled power rankings for every team.  The Fox Sports NBA Power Rankings provide a breakdown of each team as well as stats and schedules.  Currently, the Miami Heat are ranked number one and the Thunder are in second place.  The New York Knicks are third and the Chicago Bulls are ranked fourth.

Drew Brees Tops Dan Marino –

Drew Brees set the single season mark for passing in a 45-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.  Brees topped Marino by three yards and finished the season with 5,087 yards passing.  Currently, Tom Brady has 4,897 yards and could also pass Dan Marino this season.  Brady is home this week against the Buffalo Bills and Brees plays at home against the Carolina Panthers.

Republican Craig James Seeks Texas Senate Seat –

Craig James has announced that he will seek the US Senate seat held by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.  James is running as a Republican and is a strong candidate to fill the seat of the retiring Republican Senator.  Craig James has been a college football analyst for ESPN and a football player for SMU and the New England Patriots.  Currently, there are several Republican candidates in the race and James will benefit from the crowded field.  Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst is the front-runner and has already built a solid campaign.  However, Craig James has positive name recognition from being a college football player in Texas.  The Texas Republican primary is scheduled for April 3rd but may be pushed back due to redistricting.  The winner of the Texas Republican primary will most likely win the general election.

Twins Land Josh Willingham –

The Minnesota Twins landed free agent outfielder Josh Willingham.  Willingham signed with the Twins in a deal worth $21 million.  Last season, Willingham hit 29 homeruns and drove in 98 RBIs for the Oakland Athletics.  Willingham has also played for the Washington Nationals and the Florida Marlins.

Dodgers Sign Tony Gwynn Jr. –

Tony Gwynn Jr. signed a two year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Gwynn will receive $850,000 in 2012 and $1.15 million for the 2013 season.  Last season, Gwynn hit .256 for the Dodgers and had 12 doubles and 22 stolen bases.

Broncos Win In Overtime –

The Denver Broncos defeated the Chicago Bears in overtime by a score of 13-10.  Tim Tebow threw for 236 yards and ran for another 49 yards.  Matt Prater kicked a 59 yard field goal to send the game into overtime.  In overtime, Prater kicked a 51 yard field goal to win the game.  The Broncos are 8-5 and are two games in first place.

Griffin Wins Heisman Trophy –

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin won the Heisman trophy with 1,687 points.  Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck came in second with 1,407 points.  Griffin threw 36 touchdown passes on the year for the 9-3 Baylor team.  Luck threw 35 touchdowns for the BCS bound Stanford Cardinals that finished the season 11-1.

Tiger Woods Wins Chevron –

Tiger Woods won the Chevron World Challenge and his first title in two years.  The last title Tiger Woods won was the Australian Masters on November 15th 2009.  Woods will now move up to 21st in the world rankings.

Tebow Time –

Tebow and the Broncos have done it again.  The Broncos scored 28 second half points to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 35-32.  The Broncos are now 6-1 with Tim Tebow as the starter.  Tebow threw for 202 yards and had a passer rating of 149.3.  Matt Prater hit a 23 yard field goal to give the Broncos the win.
