New York Rangers Lead Series –

The New York Rangers were scoreless in the first two periods before Dan Girardi broke the tie 53 seconds into the third period.  Kreider scored 12 minutes into the third and New York also added an empty net goal to win 3-0.  Lundqvist shutout the New Jersey Devils and had 21 saves on the day.  The game one victory over the New Jersey Devils comes after a tough seven game series with the Washington Capitals.  Only one game in the seven game series with the Washington Capitals was decided by more than a goal.  The Rangers and the Devils will play game two in New York at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

Votto Hits Three Homers –

Joey Votto hit three home runs on Sunday to lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 9-6 victory over the Washington Nationals.  Washington was leading 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth when Votto hit a walk off grand slam to centerfield.  Joey Votto had not hit a home run since April 30th.   This marked the second time in his career that Joey Votto hit three home runs in a single game. The Washington Nationals won the first two games of the weekend series and are 21-13 on the season.

Josh Hamilton Hits Four Homers –

Josh Hamilton hit four home runs in a 10-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.  Hamilton became the 16th player in Major League Baseball to hit four home runs in a game.  Hamilton almost had five homers in the game when he connected for a double to right centerfield in the third inning.  The 18 total bases is the most ever for an American League player.

Currently, Josh Hamilton leads the American League with a .406 batting average, 14 homeruns, and 36 RBI’s.  Hamilton also tops the American League in on base percentage as well as slugging percentage.  Hamilton was the American League Most Valuable Player in 2010.  The Texas Rangers star becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

New York Rangers Lead Series –

New York took a three games to two lead over the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.  Brad Richards scored a goal on a power play with only 7.6 seconds remaining.  Marc Staal put in the winning goal for the New York Rangers in overtime.  Game one of the series is the only Washington Capitals playoff game this season to be decided by more than one goal.  Game six of the Eastern Conference Semifinals will be played on Thursday night in Washington DC.

I’ll Have Another won the Kentucky Derby by 1 1/2 lengths at Churchill Downs.  I’ll Have Another finished the Kentucky Derby in 2:01 4/5.   There were 165,307 people attending the 138th Kentucky Derby

Jared Weaver Throws No-Hitter –

Jared Weaver pitched a no-hitter in a 9-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins.  This is the second no-tter in Major League Baseball in the last two weeks.  Weaver had 9 strikeouts on the game and only 1 walk.  Recently, Jared Weaver signed a 5 year contract extension with the Angels worth $85 million.

Spurs Win Game Two –

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Utah Jazz 114-83 to take a two game lead in the playoff series.  San Antonio had a 25 point lead at the half.  Utah rebounded from a 2 game deficit in a 2007 playoff series against Houston.  Game 3 will be played in Salt Lake City Utah on Saturday night.

Washington Capitals Even Series –

The Washington Capitals won game two over the New York Rangers to even the series at one game.  Washington scored on a power play with a little over seven minutes remaining to take the lead 3-2.  The New York Rangers won game one by a score of 3-1 before a home crowd at Madison Square Garden.  Ovechkin scored the winning goal for the Washington Capitals.  Game three will be in Washington DC on Wednesday night.

Bryce Harper Makes Washington Debut –

Bryce Harper made his Washington Nationals debut at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.  Bryce Harper went 1 for 3 with a double and a sacrifice fly.  Strasburg pitched 7 strong innings and gave up only 1 earned run.  Strasburg also had 9 strikeouts on the day.  Strasburg has 34 strikeouts this season and has only allowed 4 earned runs.  The Washington Nationals are 14-7 on the year and are in first place of the National League East Division.

Washington Capitals Advance –

The Washington Capitals defeated the Boston Bruins 2-1 in game seven to win the playoff series.  The defending Stanley Cup Champions lost game seven in overtime on their home ice.  All seven games of the series were decided by one goal.

Andrew Luck Draft Number One –

Andrew Luck was drafted number 1 by the Indianapolis Colts.  The Colts were expected to draft Luck number one to replace Peyton Manning.  Luck threw for 3,517 yards and 37 touchdowns as a Stanford Cardinal in 2011.  Andrew Luck played in a pro-style offense at Stanford and is expected to start game one of the season.  Robert Griffin was drafted second by the Washington Redskins and Trent Richardson was selected third by the Cleveland Browns.

NFL Draft 2012 –

ESPN has full coverage of the 2012 NFL draft.  The NFL draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York.  Round 1 of the NFL draft will be on Thursday and rounds 2 and 3 will take place on Friday.  Andrew Luck and Trent Richardson are two of the top prospects in the draft.  The New York Jets are looking for a running back and may trade for a higher place in the draft.  Currently, the New York Jets are selecting 16th in the draft.

New York Rangers Force Game 7 –

The New York Rangers won game 6 over the Ottawa Senators by a score of 3-2.  The Rangers only had 22 shots on goal compared to the Senators 27.  The Rangers scored 3 goals in the second period to take the lead.  Lundqvist had 25 saves and a save percentage of .926%.  Game 7 will be played in New York on April 26th.

Humber Throws Perfect Game –

Chicago White Sox pitcher Phil Humber threw a perfect game in a 4-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners.  The Humber perfect game is the 21st in Major League Baseball history.  The last perfect game was thrown by Roy Halladay in 2010.  Humber had 9 strikeouts and threw a strike for the first pitch on 17 of the 27 batters.

San Francisco Giants Reliever Injured –

San Francisco Giants reliever Brian Wilson has been placed on the disabled list.  Brian Wilson may have elbow reconstruction surgery that will likely end his season.  Wilson had 48 saves in 2010 and 36 saves last season.  Wilson has been an All-Star three times in his career.
