New York Yankees Defeat Blue Jays –

The New York Yankees scored four runs in the top of the fourth and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 5-2.  Ivan Nova picked up his 11th win of the season.  Nova allowed only 5 hits and had 10 strikeouts and 1 walk.  Derek Jeter became the only player other than Hank Aaron to have a 150 hits for 17 straight seasons.The New York Yankees are 67-46 on the year and in first place in the American League East.

Raisman Wins Third Medal –

Aly Raisman won her third medal of the London Olympics.  Raisman earned her second gold medal of the Olympics with the floor exercise after winning the bronze in the balance beam.  Raisman won the bronze in the balance beam after her difficulty rating was increased to 6.3 from 6.2.

Lolo Finishes Fourth –

 Lolo Jones finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 12.58 seconds.  Sally Pearson of Australia won the gold medal in 12.35 seconds which was the fastest in Olympic history.  Dawn Harper won the silver medal and Kellie Wells took home the bronze.  Lolo Jones hit a hurdle in 2008 which cost her the gold medal.

Andy Murray Wins Gold Medal –

Andy Murray won the gold medal with a straight set victory over Roger Federer.  Murray won in front of a home crowd at Wimbledon 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.  Federer won the silver and del Porto of Argentina won the bronze.  Andy Murray also won the silver medal in mixed doubles with Laura Robson.

New York Mets Win Series –

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 9-1 in the fourth game of their series.  New York won three of the four games in the series and rebounded from losing 14 of their last 16 games.  The Giants won three of four games in New York when they met in April.  Jason Bay had two RBIs for the game and Cedeno knocked in five runs.  Chris Young picked up his third win of the year.

Vollmer Wins 100 Meter Butterfly –

Dana Vollmer won the gold medal in the 100 meter butterfly.  Vollmer set a world record with a time of 55.98 seconds.  Vollmer broke the mark set by Sarah Sjostrom in 2009.  Lu Ying of China won the silver medal.

Lochte Wins 400 Meter Gold –

Ryan Lochte won the 400 meter individual gold medal in a time of 4 minutes 5.18 seconds.  Thiago Pereira of Brazil took home the silver in 4 minutes 8.86 seconds and Japan’s Kosuke Hagino won the Bronze medal.  Michael Phelps finished in fourth place missing the Bronze by 34 hundredths of a second.

Brewers To Trade Zack Greinke –

The Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin confirmed that Zack Greinke is likely to be traded.  Zack Greinke is 9-3 on the season with a 3.44 earned run average.  The Brewers fell 9 games behind the Cincinnati Reds and almost out of playoff contention.  A trade is expected to happen before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.

Ernie Els Wins British Open –

Ernie Els won the British Open and was 7 under 273 for the Open.  Adam Scott finished second with 6 under 274.  Ernie Els will join Bubba Watson in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.  The Grand Slam of Golf will take place from October 22nd-24th.  The British Open win gave Ernie Els his 4th major championship.

Nadal To Miss London Olympics –

Rafael Nadal will miss the London Olympics due to an injury.  Nadal would have been the flag bearer for the Spain team at the Olympic games.  Nadal was the Gold medal winner at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.  Gold medal contenders are Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray.

Washington Nationals Defeat New York Mets –

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets 5-4 in 10 innings.  The Nationals won the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth.  New York came from behind and scored three runs in the top of the ninth but could not hold the lead.  Mattheus picked up the win and is 3-1 on the year.  Niese started for New York and pitched seven strong innings allowing only three hits and one earned run.  Niese had eight strikeouts and did not allow a walk.  The New York Mets have lost five consecutive games and are 46-44 on the year.  Washington is 52-36 this season and are in first place in the National League East.

National League Wins All-Star Game –

The National League jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.  Justin Verlander gave up a bases loaded triple to San Francisco Giant Sandoval in the five run first.  The National League added three more runs to take an 8-0 lead.  The victory gives the National League home field advantage in the World Series.

Federer Wins 7th Wimbledon Title –

Roger Federer won his 7th Wimbledon title with a victory over Andy Murray.  Federer tied William Renshaw and Pete Sampras for the most career Wimbledon titles.  Federer dropped the first set and won the next three sets.  The victory will allow Federer to regain the number one ranking.

Williams Wins Wimbledon –

Serena Williams won her 14th grand slam championship and her 5th Wimbledon title on Saturday.  Williams defeated Radwanska in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.  Williams had 17 aces against Radwanska and 102 aces in the tournament.  Roger Federer and Andy Murray will meet on Sunday for the Men’s title.
