Tim Lincecum Wins Cy Young –

Tim Lincecum beat out Cardinals Carpenter and Wainwright for the award.  This is the second Cy Young award for the 25 year old.  Lincecum won the award with only a 15-7 record and was second in first place votes.

Favre: Player of the Week –

Favre threw four touchdowns and led the Vikings to a win over the Packers.  The game was in Packer country and was the second win over the packers this year for the Vikings.  Favre recieved the honor of Player of the Week for his efforts.

Game 3 –

Hamels vs. Pettitte in game 3 tonight.  The series is tied at one game a piece and game 3 is in Philadelphia.  The Phillies gained home field advantage with a win in game 1 at Yankee stadium.

Jets Fined For Favre –

The Jets team, their GM, and coach Mangini were fined for not reporting the injury to Brett Favre last season. The exam revealed the injury with 4 or 5 games left in the season. The fines totaled 125,000 for all three.

Favre Returns Solid –

Favre has returned and as has not disappointed Vikings fans. As expected it was a solid performance that gave Minny a two touchdown victory. Some sports reporters didn’t have a positive take on his performance and that is the article that is linked below. I will go out on a limb and predict the Minnesota will make it to the Super Bowl this year.

Red Sox Top Blue Jays –

The Red Sox completed a three game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a win by Paul Byrd. The win was the first this year for Paul Byrd and it helped move the Red Sox to a 2 1/2 game lead over Texas for the wild card.

Favre Returns –

Brett Favre has decided to give it one more run this year and has officially signed with the Vikings. Having Favre at the helm makes the Vikings a serious contender for the Super Bowl. If Brett can stay healthy he will likely have another 3,000+ yard passing season.

Eli Manning Signs Contract –

Eli Manning has signed a contract extension that will make him the highest paid player in football. Manning has a streak of 71 consecutive starts for the Giants and has also thrown at least 3000 yards and 20 touchdowns in each of the last four years. Manning also led the Giants to a Super Bowl which is another major reason for the extension.

Home Runs Don't Always Deliver –

Forbes has an article by Monte Burke that talks about the Home Run ball and how it doesn’t lead teams to the World Series. The article discusses why teams the league the majors in home runs almost always are not the World Champions. Being a fan of the 4 man starting staff, this article is music to my ears.

Favre Not To Return –

In another surprise move Brett Favre has decided not to return to the NFL. Favre who is regarded as one of the best to ever play the game has been back and forth on the idea of returning. The Vikings would have been a much stronger team if he had joined them this fall.

Perfect Game For Buehrle –

Mark Buehrle threw a perfect for the White Sox and improved his record to 11-3. The perfect game is only the 18th in Major League history. A defensive gem by wise in the ninth inning allowed Buerhle to remain perfect.

Ohio State Looks For Five –

Ohio State has won the last four Big Ten championships and is looking for number five. The Buckeyes have been consistent during the regular season but once it is time for a bowl game anything is possible. Last year, Ohio State lost 35-3 to USC in the Rose Bowl.

Josh Hamilton Returns –

Texas Ranger Josh Hamilton will return from the injured list and play in the All-Star game. He will not participate in the Home Run derby which is a disappointing for fans.
