College Football Week 5 –

Ohio State remained unbeaten with a 17-16 win at Michigan State.   Georgia and Florida State also improved to 5-0 this season with victories over Tennessee and South Florida.  Also, number 12 ranked Texas defeated Oklahoma State 41-36.

NFL Refs Return –

National Football League refs returned for the Thursday night game between the Ravens and the Browns.  It took a high profile call at the end of the Green Bay game on Monday night to make fans appreciate the NFL refs.  The Ravens defeated the Browns 23-16.

R.A. Dickey Wins 20th –

R.A. Dickey won his 20th game of the season with a 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Dickey was on the mound for the New York Mets last home game of the year.  Dickey had 13 strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings and allowed only 2 walks.  Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez is the only other 20 game winner in the league.

NFL Week 3 –

The Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Atlanta Falcons all improved to 3-0 with week three wins.  The New York Jets and New York Giants both won and are 2-1 on the year.  Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 384 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 34-31 loss to the Raiders.  The Steelers and Raiders are both 1-2 this season.  Andy Dalton threw for 328 yards and 3 touchdowns and led Cincinnati to a 38-31 win over Washington.

LSU Defeats Auburn –

LSU defeated Auburn 12-10 and improved to 4-0 on the year.  LSU held Auburn scoreless in the second half and took the lead on a third quarter field goal.  Mettenberger was 15 for 27 passing and threw for 169 yards for LSU.  LSU is ranked number two in the nation.

Fred Couples Elected To Hall –

Fred Couples has been elected to the Hall of Fame with 51% of the PGA Tour ballot.  Couples will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on May 6th 2013.  Couples has won on the PGA tour 15 times including the Masters in 1992.

New York Jets Lose To Pittsburgh Steelers –

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Jets by a score of 27-10.  Ben Roethlisberger threw for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Steelers.  Mark Sanchez was 10 of 27 passing and threw for 138 yards and 1 touchdown.  The Pittsburgh Steelers had a 13-10 lead at the halftime.

Berdych Defeats Federer –

Tomas Berdych defeated Roger Federer in four sets 7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.  Berdych is the number sixth seed and Roger Federer is the number one seed of the tournament.  Andy Murray also advanced with a four set win over Cilic.  Maria Sharapova won in three sets against Marion Bartoli.

College Football Week 1 –

Fox Sports has scores and highlights for all the week one college football games.  Number two ranked Alabama defeated number eight Michigan 34-14.  Also, number nine ranked South Carolina came from behind to win 17-13 over Vanderbilt.  Number fourteen Clemson was also a winner in week one with a 26-19 victory at Auburn.

New York Mets Defeat Marlins –

The New York Mets defeated the Marlins by a score of 3-0.  New York Mets started R.A. Dickey picked up his 17th win of the season with a complete game shutout.  Dickey leads the National League with five complete games this year.  Dickey had seven strikeouts and only allowed three walks.  Ike Davis hit his 25th home run of the year and had three RBIs on the day.

Minnesota Twins Hosting All-Star Game –

The Minnesota Twins are expected to host the 2014 All-Star game.  The official announcement is expected to take place on Wednesday at Target Field.  Minnesota has hosted the All-Star game in 1965 and 1985.  The 2013 All-Star game will be hosted by the New York Mets.

NFL Preseason Week 4 –

Peyton Manning threw for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 28-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.  The Denver Broncos are 1-2 and the San Francisco 49ers are 2-1 this preseason.  Also, the Seattle Seahawks went to 3-0 with a 44-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.  Ryan Tannehill was 11 for 27 passing for the Miami Dolphins in a losing effort against the Atlanta Falcons.

Strasburg Leads Washington Over Atlanta –

Stephen Strasburg pitched 6 innings and gave up only 1 earned run in a 4-1 victory over Atlanta.  Strasburg had 10 strikeouts on the day and allowed only 4 hits 1 walk.  The victory gave Strasburg his 15th win of the season.  The Washington Nationals are 77-46 on the year and have a 7 game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.

NFL Preseason Week 3 –

ESPN has all the scores and highlights from the week 3 preseason games.  Andrew Luck was 16-25 passing and threw for 175 yards in a 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Also, the New York Giants defeated the New York Jets 26-3 and the Chicago Bears won 33-31 over the Washington Redskins.

Olympic Medals –

The NBC Olympics site has the medal standings by nation and sport.  The United States of America won 104 total medals which was the most of any nation.  China won 88 medals and Russia won 82 total medals.  The United States of America also won the most gold medals with 46.  Great Britain was the host nation and won 29 gold medals and 62 total medals.
