Butler!

Butler beats K State 63-56 to make it to the Final Four.  The Butler Bulldogs came in as a fifth seed and have earned a spot with the elite teams of the tourney.  This was basically a home game for Butler and the crowd was on their side.  They will also enjoy the support of any basketball fan that roots for the underdog.

Reyes To Return –

Mets shortstop Jose reyes is set to return after doctors determined that his thyroid levels returned to normal.  The Mets need their start shortstop who only played in 36 games last year due to an injury.  The Mets were plagued by injuries last season are would suffer if Reyes remained sidelined.

UNI To Elite Eight?

Will Nothern Iowa have what it takes to advance to the elite eight?  The answer is not yet known but the chances are good.  Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas has a injury to his heel and may be weakened from the Maryland game.  Teams like Northern Iowa and Cornell may continue to surprise fans in this year’s tournament.

Northern Iowa Beats Kansas –

Northern Iowa surprised Kansas with a 69-67 victory.  Northern Iowa is 30-4 on the season and will play the winner of the Maryland and Michigan State game.

Gonzaga Takes Down Florida State –

The eighth-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs won 67-60 over the Florida State Seminoles.  Gonzaga advances to the second round of the tournament.

Notre Dame Falls –

Notre Dame became the first upset game of the tournament by falling to 11th seed Old Dominion 51-50.  Notre Dame had the early lead but had to play catch-up in the final minutes.  Old Dominion had not won a tornament game since 1995 by beating Villanova in triple overtime.

Go Duke!

The Duke Blue Devils took the ACC Championship with a 65-61 win over Georgia Tech.  Kyle Singler was the MVP with 20 points on the day.  Duke is ranked number 4 this year and has a good shot at the NCAA title.

Medal Count –

NBC Olympics has a breakdown of the final medal count.  The U.S. had the most overall medals at 37 but was tied for fourth in Gold medals with 9.  Canada had the most Gold at 14 and Germany came in second with 10 Gold medals.
