Pettitte Injured –

The New York Yankees have lost Andy Pettitte for one month due to a groin injury.  Pettitte is 38 years old and had a similar injury back in 2001 which caused him to miss 15 games.  The Yankees went on to defeat the Tampa Bay by a score of 9-5.

Mets Win In 10 –

The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants in 10 innings by a score of 4-3.  Ike Davis knocked in the winning run in the top of the tenth with a double to right field.  The Mets blew a two run lead in the bottom of the ninth.  Ike Davis had three hits and two RBIs on the day.

Daly Highlights British Open –

John Daly had an impressive first round at the British Open and finished six under par.  Daly won the British Open in 1995 and this is his best start since that year.  Currently, Daly is the 455th ranked player in the world.

Favre Likely To Return –

Brett Favre is likely to return for another season with the Minnesota Vikings.  The Vikings and Favre had a tremendous season and almost went to the Super Bowl.  Favre posted impressive numbers having 33 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions.

NL Wins All-Star Game –

The National League won the All-Star game by a score of 3-1 last night in Anaheim.  The win gives the National League home field advantage in the World Series.  Brian McCann had a three run double in the 7th inning and was the All-Star game MVP.  The National League has a 41-38-2 All-Star game record.

Cavs Get 5 For Lebron –

The Cleveland Cavaliers will get five future draft picks from the Miami Heat for Lebron James.  Two of the Miami Heat’s first round draft picks between 2013 and 2017 are included in the five.

Spain Takes Cup –

Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 with a late goal in extra time by Andres Iniesta.  This is the first ever World Cup for Spain.

FIFA WORLD CUP –

Germany takes third place with a 3-2 win over Uruguay.  This is the second straight World Cup that Germany has placed third.  The championship will be decided tomorrow with a match between Spain and the Netherlands.

Cliff Lee Traded –

Cliff Lee was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Texas Rangers.  Lee is one of the best pitchers in the major leagues with an 8-3 record and a league leading 2.34 earned run average.  Lee won the Cy Young award two years ago and helped the Phillies reach the World Series last season.

Lebron James –

Lebron James took his time making the decision of which NBA team to play for next year.  There was speculation that he would go the the Heat and join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  Wade and Bosh are also represented by the same agency as Lebron James.  That speculation turned out to be correct as Lebron James has announced that he will join the Miami Heat.

Colorado Rockies Comeback –

The Colorado Rockies started the ninth inning trailing the Cardinals 9-3 but finished with a 12-9 victory.  A walk off three run homer by Seth Smith gave the Rockies the win and capped a nine run ninth inning.  Both teams have a 45-38 record on the year.

Dutch Advance –

The Netherlands defeated Uruguay 3-2 to advance to the finals of the World Cup.  It will be an all european World Cup final with Spain or Germany being the other team.  Spain meets Germany tomorrow to determine who will play the Dutch.  This is the third Finals for the Dutch, losing to Germany in 1974 and Argentina in 1978.

All-Star Voting –

The All-Star teams are almost set and Joe Mauer and Albert Pujils are the top vote getters.  Mauer received 5.37 million votes which is the third highest total of all time.  Mauer is a catcher for the Minnesota Twins and will also have teammate Justin Morneau in the all-star roster.  The winner of the all-star game will have home field advantage in the World Series.

Nadel Wins Wimbledon –

Nadel defeated Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4, to win his second Wimbledon title.  The title gave Nadel his 8th Grand Slam championship and it’s the second time that he won Wimbledon after the French Open.

Germany Beats Argentina –

Germany defeated Argentina 4-0 and will advance to the World Cup semifinals.  Klose had two goals and that brings him to a total of 14 in three tournaments.  The overall record is 15 goals and that is held by Ronaldo of Brazil.
