World Cup 2022 –

America withdrew a 2018 bid for the World Cup to help strengthen a 2022 World Cup bid.  The strategic move was based on the World Cup rules which do not allow the same continent to host consecutive World Cups.  The main competition for the 2022 World Cup comes from Asian countries other than China.  China has designs on a 2026 World Cup bid which may prevent Japan or Korea from hosting in 2022.

Favre Throws 500th –

Brett Favre threw his 500th career touchdown pass in the third quarter against the New York Jets.  He also went on to toss his 501st and 502nd in the fourth quarter.  Brett Favre is the only quarterback in history to throw 500 career touchdown passes.  He also broke the 70,000 career passing mark in the third quarter.  The closest quarterback to Favre in both categories is Dan Marino.  The Favre performance still could not lift the Vikings over the Jets on Monday night.  The Jets won the game by a score of 29-20.
