Mets To Host All-Star Game –

The New York Mets are expected to host the 2013 All-Star game at Citi Field.  The Mets have not hosted an All-Star game since 1964.  Fred and Jeff Wilpon also announced that they are seeking a limited partner to buy 20-25% of the franchise.

Andy Murray Defeats Ferrer –

Andy Murray defeated David Ferrer in four sets to advance to the finals in the Australian Open.  Andy Murray could be the first British male to win a Grand Slam since Fred Perry in 1936.  Murray will face Novak Djokovic in the finals on Sunday.

Jimmer Fredette Scores 43 In BYU Win –

Jimmer Fredette scored 43 and helped number 9 ranked BYU defeat  number 4 San Diego State by a score of 71-58.  The Cougars are 20-1 on the season and have a strong chance at being a top 4 seed in the NCAA tournament this year.  BYU will face San Diego State again on February 26th in San Diego.

Nadal Loses To Ferrer –

David Ferrer defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets to advance to the next round in the Australian Open.  Rafael Nadal was attempting to hold all four Grand Slam championships at the same time.  Nadal is only 24 years old and has won 9 Grand Slam titles in his career.

Federer, Djokovic, Wozniacki In Semifinals –

Roger Federer advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open with a three set victory over Stanislas Wawrinka.  The win gave Federer his eight straight appearance in the Australian Open Semifinals.  Federer is attempting to win his 17th Grand Slam title.  Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki also advanced to the semifinals.

Agassi Entering Tennis Hall Of Fame –

Andre Agassi  announced that he will be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame on July 9th.  Agassi won the career Grand Slam and spent 30 straight weeks as the number one ranked player in the world.  Agassi won the U.S. Open twice, Wimbledon and the French Open once, and the Australian Open 4 times.

Super Bowl Bound Steelers –

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be playing for another Super Bowl ring against the Green Bay Packers.  Pittsburgh defeated the Jets by a score of 24-19 after having a 24-3 half-time lead.  This will be the 8th time that the Pittsburgh Steelers will play in the Super Bowl.

Green Bay Packers Defeat Chicago Bears –

The Green Bay Packers are Super Bowl bound after their 21-14 win over the Chicago Bears.  The Packers led the entire game and took a 14-0 lead into the fourth quarter.  Aaron Rodgers was 17-30 with 244 yards passing and 2 interceptions.

Billy Butler Stays With Royals –

Billy Butler and the Kansas City Royals agreed to a four year contract extension for $30 million.  The hard hitting first baseman just won the Royals player of the year award for the second straight season.  Butler had strong seasons in the minor leagues and has been very impressive during his four major league seasons.  Billy Butler has 590 hits and 141 doubles in 533 games as a major league player.

Yankees Sign Andruw Jones –

 The New York Yankees signed Andruw Jones to a one year contract for $2 million.  Andruw Jones can earn an additional $1.2 million for incentives based on the number of plate appearances.  During his career, Jones won 10 Gold Gloves and is still considered to be an outstanding defensive player.  Last season, Andruw Jones hit 19 home runs in 278 at-bats.

Roger Federer Wins In Five Sets –

Roger Federer escaped with a five set win to advance to the third round of the Australian Open.  Gilles Simon defeated Federer the only two times that they met which was in 2008.  Federer has won 16 Grand Slam tournaments in his career.

U.S. Open Remains On CBS –

The U.S. Tennis Association and CBS have stated that they have agreed in principle to a deal that includes the 2012 through 2014 U.S. Open tournaments.  The agreement also includes keeping the men’s and women’s finals at their current schedules.  CBS has broadcast the U.S. Open since 1968.

Blake Griffin Scores 47 –

Blake Griffin scored 47 points and had 14 rebounds in one of the best performances ever by a rookie.  The game marked his 33rd double-double of the season and his 27th consecutive double-double.  Griffin is one of the top players in the NBA and he is also one of the youngest.  The Clippers went on to win the game over the Indiaina Pacers by a score of 114-107.
