Andy Murray Wins Wimbledon –

Andy Murray won his first Wimbledon title with a straight set victory over Novak Djokovic.  Murray defeated Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.  Murray is the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.  Novak Djokovic had four aces in the match compared to nine aces for Andy Murray.  Murray won 48 of 67 of his first serve points.  Andy Murray had the fastest serve in the match which was clocked at 131 mph.

Mets Sweep Yankees –

The New York Mets completed a four game sweep of the New York Yankees on Thursday night.  Dillon Gee allowed only four hits and had 12 strikeouts without walking a batter over 7 1/3 innings.  Robinson Cano hit a solo homerun off Gee in the third inning for the Yankees only run of the game.  The Cano homerun cut the Mets lead in half but the next 15 Yankees could not reach base against Gee.  Marlon Byrd knocked in the first two runs for the Mets with a homerun in the second inning.  John Buck drove in the Mets third run in the top of the eighth inning.   Bobby Parnell came on for the Mets and picked up his ninth save of the year.

The New York Mets won game three of the four game set on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.  The Mets scored five runs in the top of the first inning and won by a score of 9-4.  Jeremy Hefner was the winning pitcher for the Mets.

The Mets came from behind to win game two from the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Mariano Rivera came on for the Yankees and threw batting practice fastballs to the heart of the Mets lineup.  Murphy doubled and was brought home by a David Wright line drive single.  Wright went to second base on the throw home.  Duda came up and knocked home Wright to win the game for the Mets.  Mariano rivera picked up his first loss of the year.

Bobby Parnell garnered his eighth save of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Yankees in game one of the series.  David Wright hit a homerun in the seventh and Daniel Murphy drove in the Mets second run in the eighth inning.

NBA Playoffs 2013 –

The Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers are tied 2-2 in the best of seven Eastern Conference Finals.  Miami defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and the Chicago Bulls in the Semifinals.  Indiana defeated the Atlanta Hawks and the New York Knicks to reach the Conference Finals.  The winner will play the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

New York Mets Defeat Yankees –

The New York Mets won the first game of a four game series against the New York Yankees by a score of 2-1.  Jonathan Neise pitched seven solid innings striking out four and allowing only one run.  Lyon kept the Yankees scoreless in the eighth inning and picked up his second win of the season.  Bobby Parnell came on for the ninth inning and had two strikeouts on his way to his eighth save of the year.  Parnell has appeared in 23 games this year for the Mets.

The Mets scoring came in the seventh and eighth innings.  David Wright hit a solo home run in the seventh to tie the game at one.  Daniel Murphy drove in the second Mets run with a clutch two out single in the eighth off Yankee reliever David Robertson.  Robertson is 3-1 with 28 strikeouts in 21 innings this season.

The Mets face the Yankees at Citi Field on Tuesday night and the final two games of the series will be played at Yankee stadium on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  The New York Yankees are 30-20 on the year and the Mets are 19-29.

New York Mets Win Opener –

The New York Mets won their season opener at home against the San Diego Padres.  New York scored seven runs in the first four innings and won by a score of 11-2.  Collin Cowgill hit a grand slam in the 7th inning off Brad Brach.  Niese had four strikeouts and allowed only four hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Wes Welker Heads To Denver –

Wes Welker and the Denvor Broncos agreed to a two year $12 million dollar contract.  Welker is one of the top wide receivers in the league and has been to the Pro Bowl five times.  Welker gives Peyton Manning another target and joins one of the best passing offenses in the league.  The New England Patriots signed Danny Amendola to fill the Welker slot.

Baseball Spring Training 2013 –

Spring training for the 2013 season of Major League Baseball started over a week ago.  The Kansas City Royals are 7-0 and in first place of the Cactus League.  The Baltimore Orioles are 6-1 and at the top of the Grapefruit League.  The New York Mets are 2-3 in spring training and the New York Yankees are 1-7.

NFL Scouting Combine –

The National Football League Scouting Combine will take place in Indianapolis from February 23rd to February 26th.  The workout schedule starts on Saturday the 23rd with tight ends, offensive linemen, and special teams.  February 24th has Quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers.  Defensive linemen and linebackers workout on the 25th and defensive backs are on February 26th.  There are exepected to be over 300 prospects participating in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.

Super Bowl 2013 –

The San Francisco 49ers will face the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.  The 47th Super Bowl will take place at the New Orleans Superdome at 6:30pm on Sunday, February 3rd.  The Baltimore Ravens are coached by John Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers are coached by his brother Jim Harbaugh.  Jim Harbaugh played quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers, and the Carolina Panthers.  Jim Harbaugh also coached at Stanford University.  John Harbaugh coached college football for five different teams from 1984-1997.  John Harbaugh started his first head coaching position in the National Football League with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008.

Atlanta Falcons Defeat Seattle Seahawks –

Matt Bryant kicked three field goals and Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes in a 30-28 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.  The Atlanta Falcons fell behind the Seahawks after having a 20 point lead in the fourth quarter.  Seattle took the lead with a 7 play scoring drive that took only 2 minutes and 29 seconds.  Atlanta moved the ball into field goal range and Matt Bryant kicked a 49 yard field goal with 8 seconds left in the game.  The Atlanta Falcons will play at home next Sunday in the NFC Championship game against San Francisco.

Baltimore Ravens Advance To AFC Championship Game –

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Denver Broncos in double overtime and advanced to the AFC Championship game.  Baltimore had 479 total yards and won by a score of 38-35.  Joe Flacco completed a 70 yard pass to Jacoby Jones to send the game to overtime.  Peyton Manning connected with nine different receivers and threw for three touchdowns and two interceptions.  Denver was 13-3 on the year and 7-1 at home during the regular season.  Baltimore will play in the AFC Championship game next week against the winner of the Houston Texans and New England Patriots game.

Louisville Wins Sugar Bowl –

The Louisville Cardinals defeated the Florida Gators by a score of 33-23.  Louisville jumped out to a 14 point first quarter lead and was up 24-10 at the half.  Louisville had only one turnover and was 9 of 14 on third down conversions.  Florida had 3 turnovers in the game and were only 3 of 10 on third down conversions.  The Louisville Cardinals came into the Sugar Bowl ranked number 22 and the Florida Gators were ranked number 4 in the country.

New York Giants Fall To Falcons –

The New York Giants lost 34-0 to the Atlanta Falcons.  The last time that the Giants were shutout in the regular season was against the Eagles in 1996.  Atlanta Flacons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 3 touchdowns and 270 yards.  Eli Manning was 13 of 25 and had 2 interceptions for New York.  New York fell to 8-6 on the season and are tied for first place in the NFC East.  The Atlanta Flacons improved to 12-2 on the year and have clinched the NFC South.

Alabama Defeats Georgia –

Alabama defeated Georgia by a score of 32-28 to win the SEC Title.  The Alabama Crimson Tide will play in the national championship game against Notre Dame on January 7th in Miami.  Notre Dame is ranked number one and Alabama is ranked number two.  The only loss on the season for Alabama came against Texas A & M.

NHL All-Star Game –

The National Hockey League cancelled the All-Star weekend in Columbus.  The All-Star weekend was to be held January 26th and 27th.  In addition, the NHL cancelled all regular season games through December 14th.
