Shackleford Takes Preakness –

Shackleford won the Preakness by 1/2 length over Animal Kingdom.  Animal Kingdom made a late charge in an attempt to win the second leg of the Triple Crown but Shackleford held on to win.  Shackleford finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby.

Nehro Won’t Run Preakness –

Nehro will not run in the Preakness on Saturday.  The owner wants to give Nehro a rest after running in three races since March 26th.  Nehro finished in second place in all three races including the Kentucky Derby.  Nehro is expected to run in the Belmont Stakes.

Nowitzki Scores 48 –

Nowitzki scored 48 points and hit 24 out of 24 free throws against the Oklahoma City Thunder.  The Dallas Mavericks won 121-112 and are facing the Thunder for game two on Thursday night in Dallas.  The winner of the best of seven series will play in the NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls or the Miami Heat.

Vancouver Canucks Defeat San Jose Sharks –

The Vancouver Canucks took game one of the Western Conference finals against the San Jose Sharks.  Vancouver rallied in front of a home crowd to win by a score of 3-2.  The Canucks are making their first Western Conference finals appearance in 17 seasons.  Game two will be in Vancouver on Wednesday night.

Chicago Bulls Top Miami Heat –

The Chicago Bulls Topped the Miami Heat in game one of the Eastern Conference finals.  The Bulls won 103-82 after a 46-24 scoring run broke the game open.  Chicago has a 4-0 record against the Miami Heat this year and are the top seed in the Eastern Conference.  Game Two of the best of seven series will be played in Chicago.

Tiger Woods Exits The Players Championship –

Tiger Woods exited The Players Championship after only nine holes.  Tiger took 42 shots on the first nine holes which was his worst performance on The Players Championship course.  Tiger woods has had four surgeries on his left knee and has not won in 18 months.

Mets Win; Yankees Lose –

The New York Mets had a four run eighth inning and came from behind to beat the Houston Astros 6-4.  The Mets had homeruns from Jason Bay, Fernando Martinez, and David Wright.  In New York, the Boston Red Sox had two homeruns and defeated the Yankees by a score of 5-4.

Nadal Remains Number One –

Nadal advanced to the semifinals of the Rome Masters with a 6-1, 6-3 quarterfinal victory.  The win also secured the number one ranking for Nadal at the French Open.  Nadal will face Richard Gasquet or Tomas Berdych in the semifinals.  Nadal has won the Rome Masters five of the last six years.

NHL Playoff Schedule –

Sports Illustrated has the complete schedule for the NHL playoff rounds.  The last second round series will be decided tonight in San Jose.  The San Jose Sharks had a 3-0 lead in the series but the Detroit Red Wings tied the series and have forced a game seven.

Chicago Bulls Win Game Five –

The Chicago Bulls took a 3-2 lead in their best of seven series with the Atlanta Hawks.  Chicago won game five by a score of 95-83 with Rose kicking in 33 points.  Game six of the Eastern Conference semifinals will take place in Atlanta on Thursday night.

Verlander Throws Second No-Hitter –

Justin Verlander threw his second career no-hitter on Saturday night in Toronto.  Verlander only allowed one base runner all game with an eighth inning walk.  Jack Morris threw a no-hitter in 1984 and was the last Detroit Tiger to pitch a no-hitter before Verlander.  Justin Verlander is 3-3 on the season with a 3.16 E.R.A. and 55 strikeouts.

Uncle Mo Scratched From Kentucky Derby –

Uncle Mo has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby due to a stomach ailment.  The Kentucky Derby is the first Triple Crown race and Uncle Mo was one of top names in the field.  Uncle Mo finished last season as the two year old champion.

Lakers Drop Game Two –

The Los Angeles Lakers dropped game two of the Western Conference Semi-Finals to the Dallas Mavericks.  Dallas won 93-81 and have taken the first two games of the series in Los Angeles.  Dirk Nowitzki had another strong performance for the Mavericks scoring 24 point and grabbing 7 rebounds.  Game three is scheduled for Friday in Dallas.

Pac-10 Signs Deal With ESPN & Fox –

The Pac-10 Conference signed a 12 year television deal with ESPN and Fox that is worth $3 billion.  The deal covers football, basketball and some Olympic events.  It also allows the Pac-10 to keep some events exclusive for a cable channel that they are developing by 2012.  It exceeds the $220 million per year deal between Fox and the Big Ten Conference.

Mavs Win Game One Over Lakers –

The Dallas Mavericks won game one 96-94 over the Los Angeles Lakers.  Dirk Nowitzki had 28 points and 14 rebounds in the effort.  The Dallas win in Los Angeles gives them home field advantage for the remaining best of seven playoff series.  The Mavericks trailed the Lakers by five points with three and a half minutes left to play.  A 9-2 run down the stretch gave the Mavericks the victory.
