NFL Week 6 –

The Green Bay Packers beat the Rams 24-3 and remained undefeated.  Aaron Rodgers had another strong performance for the Packers throwing for 310 yards and three touchdowns.  Next week the Packers will face the Minnesota Vikings.  The Vikings are 1-5 on the season and are coming off of a 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears.  Also on Sunday, the New York Giants improved to 4-2 with a 27-24 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Kansas State Rises In AP Poll –

Kansas State remained undefeated with a 41-34 win at Texas Tech.  The win gave Kansas State their sixth win of the year and moved them to number 12 in the Associated Press college football poll.  The Kansas State Wildcats finished last season 7-6 and were not expected to have a strong team this season.

Verlander Leads Tigers –

Justin Verlander pitched 7 1/3 innings and lead the Tigers to a win in game five of the American League Championship Series.  The Tigers win sends the series back to Texas with the Rangers leading three games to two.  Verlander picked up the win in game five and Wilson got the loss.

NBA Cancels First Two Weeks –

NBA Commissioner David Stern cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season.  The cancellations amount to the first 100 games of the season.  The last work stoppage forced the 1998-1999 season to be reduced to 50 games.

Rangers & Cardinals Win –

The Texas Rangers took a two game lead over the Detroit Tigers with a 7-3 win.  Nelson Cruz hit a game winning Grand Slam in the 11th inning for the Rangers.  In the National League playoffs, the St. Louis Cardinals tied the series with the Milwaukee Brewers with a 12-3 win in game two.  The Cardinals now have home field advantage in the National League Championship Series.

NFL Week 5 –

Fox Sports has all the scores and highlights from week 5 action in the NFL.  The Green Bay Packers remained undefeated with a 25-14 over the Atlanta Falcons.  Aaron Rodgers threw for 396 yards and two touchdowns in the win.  In other action, the Indianapolis Colts lost their fifth game of the year and are winless on the season.  The Colts failed to score in the second half of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and lost 28-24.

Tigers Beat Yankees –

The Detroit Tigers advanced to the American League Championship series with a 3-2 win over the New York Yankees.  Detroit had back to back homeruns in the first inning and won the series three games to two.  The Tigers will play the Texas Rangers in a best of seven series starting on Saturday night.  The winner will play in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies or the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dolphins Lose Chad Henne –

Maimi Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne will have shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season.  Currently, the Dolphins are 0-4 on the year.  Matt Moore is expected to start for the Dolphins against the New York Jets on October 17th.

Big 12 Revenue Sharing –

Big 12 presidents approved a revenue sharing plan of their top television deal.  The revenue sharing plan may salvage a conference that lost Texas A & M to the SEC.  The University of Missouri  board of curators will discuss the deal on Tuesday.  Missouri is one of the schools considering a move to another conference.

Yankees & Rangers Win Game One –

Division Series games were won by the Yankees, Rangers, Phillies, and Brewers.  The New York Yankees took game one from the Detroit Tigers 9-3.  Also, the Rangers defeated Tampa Bay, the Phillies beat the Cardinals, and the Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Week Three: Giants Win & Jets Lose

The New York Giants won their first game of the year 29-16 in Philadelphia.  The loss knocked the Eagles down to 1-2 on the season.  The Jets lost to the Raiders 34-24 and fell from the ranks of unbeaten teams.  Buffalo, Detroit and Green Bay all won their third game of the year and remained unbeaten.

Notre Dame Defeats Pittsburgh –

Notre Dame came from behind to defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers 15-12.  The victory gives Notre Dame their second win of the season.  Tommy Rees was 24-41 passing for Notre Dame with 216 yards and one touchdown.  Rees also completed a 2 point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Yankees Clinch Playoffs –

The New York Yankees clinched their 16th playoff berth in the last 17 years.  The Yankees clinched with a 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay in the first game of a doubleheader.  This marked the first time since the 1999 Red Sox that a team clinched a spot in the playoffs with a win in the opening game of a doubleheader.  The Yankees magic number to win the American League East is down to two.

Romo Leads Cowboys –

Tony Romo led the Cowboys to a comeback victory over the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 27-24.  Romo was 20 for 33 passing and threw for 345 yards.  The overtime victory gave the Cowboys  their first win of the season.  Romo finished the game with a fractured rib.

Djokovic Wins US Open –

Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in four sets to win the US Open.  Djokovic has won three Grand Slam titles this year as well as 10 tournament titles.  This was the first time that Djokovic won the US Open.  Nadal leads their head-to head competition 16-13.
